FREMONT  — At the age of 83, Paul B. Kellam, a well-known figure in the Fremont community, passed away on Thursday, September 5. He was well-known for his gentle nature and diligent work ethic, having spent his entire life in Fremont.

Paul’s roots in Callicoon, New York, date back to his early years.  He was born on July 3, 1941, to Harold B. and Eleanor E. Ebert Kellam, who were proud parents. As he became older, he assumed control of his father’s Texaco Repair Shop and Gas Station in the Town of Fremont.

Paul followed his passion for carpentry and became a talented artisan while managing the family business. Apart from this vocation, he was employed as a school bus driver for many years.

Moreover, Paul’s commitment and hard work went beyond his duties as the Town of Fremont’s Town Clerk; for many years, he was a councilman on the Board. 

“Paul was a fixture of the Town of Fremont for many years,” said Town Supervisor Brian Brustman. “He has been a number of things. He had a wealth of knowledge that we’re going to miss.”

Paul was not only a well-liked local resident but also an esteemed lifelong member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). 

He took tremendous pleasure in cooking, fishing, and hunting in his spare time. His enjoyment of these pastimes was a reflection of his strong passion for life and his will to seize each moment with skill and excitement.

“Paul was always very helpful and very knowledgeable over many issues,” said Brustman. “We’re sad he’s no longer there for us for his knowledge on current issues. He’ll be missed for a lot of different reasons.”
