Tri-Valley’s Kane Poje advances to Junior Olympics

NEW YORK, NY –– Tri-Valley’s standout freshman Kane Poje returned to Icahn Stadium over the weekend to compete in the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Championship.

Poje competed in three events (discus, shot put and hammer throw), advancing to the Junior Olympics in all of them.

Competitors needed a top-5 finish to advance to Texas for the Junior Olympics, and Poje didn’t finish below third place on the day.

In discus, Poje took third place with a 36.69m throw. The first place finisher in the event had a throw of 42.55 meters, and second place was 37.22m.

Similarly, Poje took third place in the hammer throw, tossing 45.47 meters. The first place finisher in the event had a PR of 61.06m and second place threw 53.56 meters.

The Shot Put, which has historically been Poje’s best event, was where he excelled over the weekend. With a throw of 14.07 meters, or 46 feet and two inches, Kane took the first place spot on the podium. He threw nearly a meter farther than second place, who had a best toss of 13.15 meters.

With the throw, Poje also reset his own TV freshman school record in the event.

The next step for Kane is to head to E.B. Cushing Stadium (EBSC), the Texas A&M stadium to compete in the Junior Olympics on July 23 and 24. A top-8 finish in Texas would crown Poje as a USATF All-American.
